Fault Lines – Fast food, fat profits: Obesity in America

english.aljazeera.net Follow us on Twitter: twitter.com Follow us on Facebook: facebook.com Follow us on Tumblr: ajfaultlines.tumblr.com Obesity in America has reached a crisis point. Two out of every three Americans are overweight, one out of every three is obese. One in three are expected to have diabetes by 2050. Minorities have been even more profoundly affected. African-Americans have a 50 per cent higher prevalence of obesity and Hispanics 25 per cent higher when compared with whites. How did the situation get so out of hand? On this week’s episode of Fault Lines, Josh Rushing explores the world of cheap food for Americans living at the margins. What opportunities do people have to eat healthy? Who is responsible for food deserts and processed food in American schools? Fault Lines finds food revolutions taking place and speaks with the people that are fighting back.

We have to remember that we need live our lives. We prepare to survive but if you ruin yourself with worrying about what could happen and not focus on why you do what you do then to me it is all a waste. Please live your lives and prepare for your family but don’t live in fear. Thanks for watching!

I agree, you can not live today as if the world IS at its end, because it isn’t. You prep for the peace of mind for IF something were to happen. You dont prep to live in paranoia. And you can not let it consume your life,if you do than your world already is at its end.

I find prepping fun! It’s good to have what you need on hand so you don’t have to depend on those that are unreliable. And you don’t have to lean to hard on those that are reliable.

A new chart set to be released later today by the Republican side of the Senate Budget Committee details a startling statistic: “Over 100 Million People in U.S. Now Receiving Some Form Of Federal Welfare.”

Just trying to keep it light…:)

But, back on topic, I understand what you are saying. I spent 20 years in Coast Guard aviation. Both the military and aviation spends lots of time training (preparing/PREPPING) for the worst and hoping for the best. That way we do not fear what might happen. Training kicks in and gets you through the bad times. All the inflight emergencies I had during my time, I never feared what “MIGHT” happen. I did what I was trained to do and I am still here today. Thanks

living life entrenched in fear is not living… and can’t be good enough… if i am ‘prepping’ just to survive and not to thrive, then I’ve missed the point.

I agree… I like the video message too… spent most of my life with my cupboards “barely there” but have been working diligently on my preps… glad to say I’m now “getting there” striving for “finally there”… which just means being ready to meet challenges as they come with adequate resourses, common sense and acquired skills to meet that challenge. along the way though, its the relationships I have with my family, friends and community that will make my efforts satisfying! living life e

So true! What would life be like if we weren’t enjoying it, as we are only here for a limited time?

I like this video…when I first woke up I spent a good long week terrified. I spent the next week engulfed in such an anger it overwhelmed me. Week three and four I regained my cpmposure and began to think in a way described here in your video. I think when a person first “gets it” they are going to be scared shitless and then angry that they didn’t wake up sooner. Hopefully thoiugh they find that medium place to then live their lives from. Thank you for posting. :)

good message. there is something to be said about prepping but people put WAY too much stock in their preps…its good to have things but not at the expense of giving up on enjoying life now. Things MAY happen…life IS happening.
